Once the home of Hawaiian monarchs King Kalākaua and his sister and successor, Queen Lili‘uokalani, ‘Iolani Palace is a National Historic Landmark. As the only royal palace in the United States, this building and its grounds serve as an enduring symbol of Hawaiian independence. The structure has undergone several evolutions throughout its history, many of which threatened its existence. Today, The Friends of ‘Iolani Palace provide caring stewardship of this treasured Hawaiian landmark.
The Friends of ‘Iolani Palace holds tours, educational programs, and regular events to preserve the Palace and its rich legacy. A nonprofit organization, the ongoing work of The Friends of ‘Iolani Palace is only made possible with contributions from caring patrons. That’s where the ‘Iolani Palace Maile Collection comes in.
Mission of the ‘Iolani Palace Maile Collection
Malie’s devotion to culture and community extends far beyond providing high quality island-inspired hair care, home, and beauty products. The ‘Iolani Palace Maile Collection was especially developed as a unique opportunity to give back—with 100% of the proceeds from this collection going directly to The Friends of ‘Iolani Palace. Our contributions help fund ongoing programs, staffing efforts, ground and building maintenance, and the overall preservation of the Palace.
Products in the ‘Iolani Palace Maile Collection
This elegant line contains two fragrance products, a Reed Diffuser and a specialty Cologne. It is also rooted in history. King Kalākaua was noted to have carried bottles of maile cologne on his 1881 trip around the world, bringing the fresh scent of Hawai’i’s lush maile vines along with him. Now sales from these new products—derived from nature and inspired by royalty—will help support The Friends of ‘Iolani Palace, and the nonprofit’s mission to act as a “living restoration of a proud Hawaiian national identity.”
‘Iolani Palace Maile Collection Reed Diffuser
