The Skin-Loving Benefits Of Natural Body Wash

Show your skin some love by washing it with the right products. Made primarily from ingredients derived from Earth’s natural resources, natural body washes cleanse, and moisturize skin in a healthy, sustainable way that’s both good for you and better for the planet.

The benefits of natural body wash are extensive. From soothing skin to having a reduced environmental impact, there are plenty of reasons to consider making the switch. Read on and you’ll see why your skin will thank you for going the natural route.

What is Natural Body Wash?

Before we talk about the copious benefits of using natural body wash, it’s important to understand what constitutes this type of product. What makes a body wash natural anyway?

In truth, the answer is a bit ambiguous. It’s different from an organic body wash, which, in order to be certified organic, must meet certain legal criteria. More on that below.

Natural body wash, on the other hand, should simply be made with a high concentration of natural ingredients. In other words, the bulk of its formulation should come from Earth-derived substances. A natural body wash product doesn’t have to be completely devoid of man-made materials and chemical compounds, but the goal is to have as much of it as possible coming from simple, natural elements.

Natural Vs. Conventional Body Wash

What qualifies a body wash as natural vs. conventional  and is one better for you than the other? These are both hot button questions many people in the beauty industry have grappled with for years.

Conventional body washes are cleansers made with water, surfactants (surface-acting agent), and a range of other chemicals such as parabens, sulfates, and preservatives. While many people are fine to use these products, some find conventional body wash to be irritating to their skin and to cause other negative reactions. Additionally, these types of products tend to be made with less responsible manufacturing methods. Both the liquids themselves and the packaging may contribute negatively to the environment.

Why You Should Care

Do you absolutely need to use an all natural organic body wash? Not necessarily, but there are several ways doing so could positively affect you.

Skin Health

This is arguably the most important factor to consider when deciding whether it’s right for you to use natural body wash. The allergens in conventional products could affect your skin’s microbiome in both the short and long term. If you’re prone to skin reactions and conditions such as eczema, using a natural body wash could reduce your risk of a flare up.

Personal Values

Another reason to care about the type of beauty and cleansing products you use is because of the impact it may have on your ethics, morals, and values. If environmentalism, sustainability, and ethical, responsible manufacturing are important to you, then using natural body wash would be in line with your beliefs and, in a sense, your identity. Using natural body wash would be practicing what you preach.

The Benefits of Natural Body Wash for Your Skin

Ethical considerations aside, the positive effects of using natural body wash should be enough to convince you that making the switch will be worth your while.

  • Less likely to cause allergic reactions.

Some people know they’re allergic to certain ingredients and therefore steer clear of them. In other cases, however, the cause of skin irritation isn’t as clear cut.

For example, maybe you’ve never been officially diagnosed with an allergy to parabens but you’ve noticed that you’ve been getting excessively dry and itchy when using your body wash. It may take months before you even think to get tested, at which point you may not even know that parabens are the culprit behind your dermatitis. Rather than enduring bouts of itchy skin and subjecting yourself to months of unpleasant showers, a better alternative would be to use a natural body wash made without these triggering chemicals.

  • Better for sensitive skin.

Then there are people who already know they have skin sensitivities. Some may be prone to reactions, making them extremely cautious when perusing the shelves in search of a good body cleanser. For these people, it’s best to keep it simple and go back to the basics with a body wash made from natural ingredients.

  • Generally suitable for most skin types.

When shopping for a body wash or cleanser, some places advise to filter by skin type. But what if you’re not sure what your skin type is? Or what if you have combination skin? Natural body wash is beneficial because it tends to be suitable for most skin types. That also means that even if your skin changes over time due to aging, hormonal changes, or a new climate, your body wash doesn’t have to.

  • Less buildup, which may mean fewer ingrown hairs.

Some conventional body washes are made with certain ingredients that may leave behind films and residue on the skin. Over time, this buildup could trap hair follicles, leading to ingrown hairs. The filmy residue interferes with pores, making it more likely for hair to grow inward. This doesn’t happen with all conventional body washes, but if you’re prone to getting ingrown hairs, it may be best to opt for natural products just in case.

Ingredients

While each scent comes with a slightly different ingredient profile due to the aroma, all of our natural body washes include the following natural ingredients designed to soothe, nourish, calm, and cleanse.

Organic Aloe

The rich concentration of vitamins, amino acids, and active enzymes in organic aloe may help enhance skin elasticity while it moisturizes and soothes. This makes it a great ingredient for burns or sunburns. It may also be useful for helping with rashes and minimizing skin irritations.

Awapuhi Ginger

As a natural anti-inflammatory agent, awapuhi ginger contains antioxidants that help lighten age spots. It’s also a natural antiseptic and antimicrobial, making it a useful skin cleanser.

Spirulina Maxima

Known for containing vitamins C, B1, B5, B6, and E, Spirulina Maxima naturally balances the skin with its inflammation-relieving properties.

Gamma-Linoleic Acid

Sometimes referred to as GLA, Gamma-Linoleic Acid helps maintain the skin barrier and prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL). This keeps the integrity of the skin intact while promoting new skin cell formation.
