Our way of life on Kauai arises from aloha, 'āina (land) and mana (spirit).

Aloha embraces the spirit of brotherhood that is the lifeline of Kauai, today an island of great ethnic diversity. On our Garden Isle, we are all Kauaians – no matter what our origins are – and we’re known as one of the friendliest peoples in the world. The warmth and kindness that visitors experience here comes naturally, and follows traditions from deep within our past. Aloha is a word brimming with generosity, far beyond an everyday “hello” or “goodbye”. The “a” could signify akahai or kindness; the “l” lokahi for unity; the “o”, olu’olu meaning pleasant; “h” stands for ha’aha’a – humility and “a” for ahonui or patience.

For those of us who live on the Garden Isle, Kauai is our 'āina, the Earth that gives us life, grounds us and nurtures us. It is our duty to protect her.

Mana is the life force or spiritual power that flows through the universe. True power and authority emanate from mana. And those who possess great mana radiate health, happiness and wholeness in body, mind and spirit.  Mana provides the gifts of personal strength, leadership ability and charisma. We earn its power through wisdom, respect, thoughtful action and right living.

Life on Kauai is about who you are, not what you do. Our lifestyle evolves from how we learn from and live with aloha, 'āina and mana each day.
